Shop for a Cause - Feathers & Grace

During the week of September 12th, four shops have teamed up to promote the importance of shopping for a cause.  Not only is it important to support small business owners, but it's also important to support small business owners who give back a portion of your money to help others.

Each shop will be highlighted throughout the week sharing their story behind their shop, the cause they support and a few tips for fellow small shop owners.  Be sure to check out each shop and read the Q&A with our second shop, Feathers and Grace, below!

Feathers & Grace

Q: What inspired you to start your own business?

In 2011, my beautiful little boy Liam, our second child and first son, became ill when he was three months old. He began having horrible seizures, and an MRI revealed severe brain damage, and cerebral atrophy: my sweet baby boy's brain was deteriorating. We were heartbroken, and searched relentlessly for answers. I began creating bracelets to share his story, hoping to discover families going through similar battles, and ultimately hoping to find life-saving treatment for our sweet boy.

We never found the cause for my precious boy's condition, and in December 2012, our beautiful Liam joined hands with Our Savior one week after his second birthday. Our hearts were shattered, and in my grief, I prayed to God for my path to be lit with His light. For a way to give love to so many suffering in this world. We'd lost our perfect baby boy, my sweet girl her baby brother, but because of God's endless grace, I had so much more love to give.

He answered my prayers in the most amazing way. He took my hand and under His wings I found refuge. I listened to Him, and I began creating more pieces of jewelry, and more collections. With every purchase, a little piece of my heart begins to mend. We share Liam's legacy. We are able to give love to others by giving portions to dozens of foundations to help children and families all over the world!

Q: What do you want readers to know about your brand?

I want readers to know that we are here to celebrate, encourage, and love deeply. I want them to know they are beautiful and so incredibly loved exactly as God created them. By Him, by me, and countless more. Our Liam showed us the greatest love needs no words, only acceptance and kindness. The smallest gesture today can change someone's tomorrow. We want everyone to be brave and show the world their own shine, and to celebrate ALL the little moments of this precious life. And above all else, love one another deeply. This is my beautiful Liam's legacy. We want them to know that when they purchase gifts with us, they are loved beyond measure. They help our family share our mission with others, and they help Liam's legacy soar! They help make a difference in the lives of so many precious families around the world!

Q: What type of items do you sell in your shop?

We create unique and meaningful   necklaces and bracelets, using 14k gold, Sterling silver, leather, and gorgeous gemstones. We have several collections, from nature-inspired pieces, to initial jewelry, to unique awareness pieces all giving to  numerous foundations!

Q; Tell us more about the cause your shop supports and why this cause is important to you.

We are incredibly thankful and thrilled to support dozens of foundations! Because we never found the cause of our beautiful Liam's cerebral atrophy, Jesus led us to help as many precious children and families as we possibly can, wherever we can. Just a few of our passions are children with special needs and rare conditions, families suffering with loss, ending human trafficking, supporting families through adoption, ending abuse/violence/ neglect/ injustices, and loving and supporting families battling cancer and chronic illnesses. We have every foundation to whom we give listed on each item. We give 10% of every single purchase in our shop to these foundations.

Q: If you had to choose 3 reasons why people should support small businesses, what would they be?

Supporting small businesses helps families grow in love and stability. For many, parent(s) are able to stay home with their children and be present for all the precious moments, and build a strong foundation. Many are able to help add to the family's income, meet the family's needs, and give to others as they are called to.

Secondly, supporting small businesses helps build the community, such as parks, schools, churches, and helps build relationships and create jobs.

Lastly, supporting small businesses helps create more diverse and one-of-a-kind products! Often, these products are personalized, packaged with loving care, and time is taken to write thank you notes! Your purchase is special and makes difference! Building relationships with owners and giving/receiving excellent customer service are wonderful benefits. When you shop small businesses, you will feel wonderful that you are helping families and communities!!

Q: What do you love most about being a small business owner?

I love using the gifts God has given me to give love to others, encourage them, celebrate them, and help others heal while staying home with my children. I love sharing God's grace, love, and truth with so many! I love working on my own time schedule,  sharing our story, and helping my Liam's legacy soar to change lives!

Q: What advice would you give to someone starting their own business?

Always use your own unique talents and creativity to build your business. Be you and no one else. Pray relentlessly for God to show you the path He wants you to take. He will lead you. Ask for help when you need it, and don't led pride overpower. Ask yourself what makes you unique?Share your story. You will impact someone's life, I promise!

Your gifts and story have touched my heart deeply. My husband, David Goodale, passed away last month after battling with an undiagnosed brain inflammatory disease that caused a tumor like mass deep in his brain (hypothalamus). We have 4 young children ages 1, 3, 5, and 7. They adored their daddy and I loved him deeply as he cherished me as his “lovely bride”(what he would so lovingly call me). My friend, Casey, nominated us to recieve gifts from you. I just wanted to thank you greatly and also tell you I am so sorry for your loss. Liam the Great! What a wonderful legacy of love and truth through our Lord, Jesus Christ. Bless you! Number 6:24-26.
